The design question

How can Cape Town’s Foreshore reconnect the city, the waterfront and everyday public life?

My contribution

In Foreshore+, my urban design research at the University of Cape Town, I explored movement, land use and urban form, developing a staged vision and precinct studies. I also took part in World Design Capital Cape Town public participation, engaging communities about parks and neighbourhoods; Foreshore+ was exhibited there.

The value

The vision investigates how public routes, transport, mixed uses and a more connected urban fabric can bring life to the Foreshore.

Foreshore+ was authored by Michael de Beer at the University of Cape Town in 2013. The World Design Capital participation work was a separate public-engagement activity.
