De Laak 2B bridges

De Laak 2B bridges · Vathorst, Amersfoort · West 8

The character of a neighbourhood is carried into its everyday crossings. Here that meant connecting an expressive design idea to repeatable components and carefully coordinated construction details.

The design question

How can bridges connect a water-rich neighbourhood while contributing to its character?

My contribution

I developed the preliminary balustrade design into a system of prefabricated segments, working with Ronald van Nugteren, Rudi Le Hane and engineers. My work resolved vehicle and pedestrian requirements, bridge and road gradients, connections and buildability, including safety at the fish-pattern junctions.

The value

The character of a neighbourhood is carried into its everyday crossings. Here that meant connecting an expressive design idea to repeatable components and carefully coordinated construction details.
