Housing is a significant issue facing South Africa as formal solutions remain economically out of reach for the majority. This is compounded by the fact that the housing being provided by government is monotonous in form, poorly constructed, built on the fringes of the city and does little for developing a sense of place and neighbourhood socius.
The project draws on three primary government subsidies and designs flexible housing models which are then positioned in a framework within an inner city site. These models are aimed at enabling incremental growth, creating urban character and offering residents opportunity
